Last Of The Potholder

Here are the last of the potholder for awhile. Taking a break but I know I will be making more.

Amy( my daughter) made me a great bag for shopping. She is so full of surprises.

She know how much I love blue and yellow together . And daisy are one of my favorite flowers along with yellow roses.

She made these cute little flowers and sewn on this lovely leafy trim. How adorable with the daisy button in the center.I love the deep pockets for sale adds and more.

Knowing Amy she had to embroider and make it personal. She just bought this crazy little sewing foot that makes these tiny flower design next to my name. Again so cute.

It really make me proud that Amy is loving sewing.

And I will say it is so much fun to go shopping with these lovely bags.it is so much better than those ugly plastic bags. I love pretty things.

The other day I was at Joann's with this bag and I received comments on it.

2 of the ladies were really taking a look at it in the check out line. I mentioned how Amy put on my logo from my blog and one lady said "hey, I was on that blog" she remembered the sewing machine.. hahahaha! I think she was teasing, but if not she probably went home to check out "SUSAN SEWS".

They said they were going home to make some bags too.

Now that was FUN!

Times Have Changed

The good ole days. yes I miss them. Now and again I remember what it was like in the 50's and 60's
I started sewing at a very young age. My mother has always sewn. I can remember standing by the sewing machine waiting for whatever she was sewing to be done. it could have been clothes for me or a toy or clothes for my baby doll. But i always remember that old black sewing machine burring along. I wish I had that machine now.
AS I am sewing these potholders it uses alot of bias tape. You can make your own or just use what you have on hand. I have pockets full of all kind of tape. Funny I am using some really old bias tape. Some may even be from my mothers stash

I remember sewing for my daughters in the 70's; you could send in 3 labels and they would send you scraps for free... I would use them on their "Barbie" clothes.

I finished some more potholders for my daughter Amy. The two end ones look like Easter Eggs. So bright and colorful.

I am almost done with this batch of potholder. I still have to finish sewing on the binding on the brown ones.
After that I will take a break from the potholders and make more in a few weeks.
I am thinking these would make Christmas gifts for friends and neighbors.

New Potholders

I am still on a roll about making new potholders. These are going in my kitchen.I really like this set.

I decided to keep them handy I put the 2 smaller one above my stove.

Maybe now I won't burn my hands

I really like these longer ones. I have a feeling I will be using these alot.

I have a few more sets cut out. then I will go on to something else.

I do enjoying making smaller projects. Don't it give you some type of satisfaction when you see your project complete.

One of my projects is organizing all the papers in my sewing room. This is going to be a MAJOR project. lol. I am undecided what to do Should I get a tall filing cabinet, or get binders. It is just I have some many different type of paper work.sewing, crocheting, quilting, and more. You would think I could keep it separated but it is still a mess.I need to organize. But I have to be in the right mind set to organize. I know if I start this project it is going to take me all week working every day that means NO SEWING. My sewing room isn't very big. All these papers are stacked on one side of the room in little crates.These crates aren't easily accessible.

Luck of the Irish, Going Green

I packed my Valentine decorations away. And out came the GREEN for St. Patrick's Day. I really like green, my Kitchen is green, well the wallpaper is ivy.
I made this table runner 2 years ago. This is on my dinning room table.

I didn't have anything for my kitchen table, and I like having something ROUND.
I crochet this.I saw something like this on EBAY Liked it but this one is alot bigger.
My table top is getting all those water and heat marks. :( But then it's so old, gives it character) lol
I normally crochet doilies and table cloths with thread but when I saw this in yarn I thought hmmm why not. It reminded me of crocheting the ripple afghans I did years ago. No real pattern. make a circle as big as you want and them make your ripples. I like how the ruffles lay.

These kitchen towels I made last year

This year I made these printable frames. They have different printables for every occasion. How cute are these and so simple I found them on "PINTEREST" ( my new addiction)

Also on PINTEREST I found tulle wreaths

I didn't want to make the same ribbon wreath as I did for Valentines. ( which I also found on PINTEREST) I wanted something different.

I bought the small foam wreath I think it was 8 inches. (the wreath really grows)

I used the tulle in spools and cute them 16 inches. ( Hobby Lobby has the tulle on spools on sale this week 50% off). Just tied them in a knot. I did use 3 shades of green and white. I like it but wish it was darker. If I ever make another I would use all dark .This was really super easy and fast. Had it done in less than 2 hours.

One of my neighbors came over yesterday to surprise Tim and I with some cake pops for Valentine's Day.
She also knows I love Hershey Chocolate

Amy and Jacob came over and spent the day.

I was able to get 1 more pot pincher finished

Now it is time to pack away the red Valentine and See what GREEN I have for St. Patrick's Day.

Pot Holders

I can't tell you how many times I burn my fingers and hands from the oven and microwave. Tim really gets upset with me. My potholders are so old, and I usually just use a tea towel in the kitchen,and they aren't thick enough no matter how may times I fold them. I decided to make some new ones.
Of course I went shopping for fabric at "AMY'S QUILT SHOPPE". I want to make different kinds.
Amy wants more of these small Pot Pinchers. I want more the the longer ones

These are great for smaller items to pick up.

I like these they go all around your pot or bowl

what I like most is they hang over your oven door.

See that is my problem I don't go into the kitchen drawer to get a pot holder. I just grab a towel that is handy.

I am going to make alot of different ones. I will be sewing away this week.

I got the patterns from Annie's Attic but really these are so simple. Everything is just layered , sewn and edged in bias tape. How simple is that.

Grocery Bags

Since I had the pattern out for the grocery bags for Amy I decided to make a few more for myself. When I go food shopping I am usually a few bags short. And I just don't like those plastic bags ... YUCK!!!!!
I made 4 more 3 with denim lining and one with plastic inside for cold or frozen things.

that gives me 10 bags total. I hope that is enough.

Amy surprised me with this beautiful bag. I won't use it to go food shopping but will use it when I go to Joanns or fabric shopping.

She made it extra long so I can buy more fabric lol

check out my logo. She copied my logo on my blog at the top here and put it on my bag. Now I have a pocket. Now how cute is that. I just love how personal this makes it for me.

these bags are all the same pattern. Amazing how different you can make them look. buy adding length , an outside pocket. Super cute and these bags are super easy. Don't you just love the little mouse sewing fabric.

February Project-- Sewing Tote

Amy and I decided on making this larger tote. We are always carrying things back and forth from house to house all the time. Butterick 5006

As most of you know Amy (my daughter) doesn't sew much at all. SHE DOES QUILT.
I was looking for fabric to make this tote.. Amy and I went and made our rounds. JoAnns, Hobby Lobby , Sew Contempo, other fabric stores and nothing popped out at us. I really had a hard time finding fabric. I said to Amy lets go to her place and look around for something there instead of buying something new.
You would not believe Amy's fabric stash. I call it "AMY'S QUILT SHOPPE".
Low and behold I found what I liked. hahahahaha

Now we have our pattern and fabric picked out - we are ready.....
Monday thru Thursday we sewed - Finally got it done.
We really should have taken pics while sewing.
We had a few good laughs. With seam ripper in hand we went to sewing.
The directions I didn't care for lol - they could have written them better. I was trying to teach Amy to read pattern directions . Why couldn't they have said place seam line to seam line; or placement line to placement line NOOOOOO they say place seamline to placement line. This wasn't user friendly when I am trying to teach Amy.
But we got it finished and both of us are pleased

Amy is getting into making bags. Years ago I made some bag to go grocery shopping. Not that I was going GREEN but because I never liked the plastic bags they gave out. They would rip and fall over in the car. And of course if it does help the environment that is a plus. They are great. I use them all the time; I love them. Amy never wanted any then but now she does. Since she is getting into sewing not just quilting she is making her own. She wants all different fabrics.
I am good at taking my bags in Walmart, Krogers, H E B and places like that, but I do forget to take them into Joanns, Hobby Lobby, Hancock Fabrics and quilt stores. Amy made me this cute bag just for that. How cute is this fabric. She made herself one now we have matching bags Mother and daughter. Now I know when she reads this she will go OH GEEZS MOM... :)

YAY !!!!!!!!!!! Amy saved me at least $100. She came over and fixed my Brother serger 929D. The part found on ebay for $33.
Parts = $33
Labor = Repair person my beautiful and smart daughter;
Working serger = Priceless

Now that Amy fixed the old one I can keep that one ready just for finishing seams.

New Valentine Table Topper

What A Surprise!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday I received a wonderful surprise.I could hardly stand it. I was in shock.
In the morning I went over to Amy's for a visit and play time in her quilt room. Around 1 in the afternoon I decided I better get home. I was home for about 15 minutes and my door bell rang. I answered the door and it was the post man Hmmmm "Special Delivery". I wonder what it could be. I didn't order anything. Then I noticed the return address GERMANY I only know one person in Germany that would send me a package. I thought as I bought the box into the house.. How sweet, My dear friend Liz sent me something.
When I opened the box I shouted OH MY GOODNESS !!!!!!!! She didn't !!!!!! But she did. She made this beautiful purse just for me. I LOVE IT. It's my favorite colors too blue and yellow. I am still amazed writing this post. Liz made me a purse. Thank you just isn't enough. This purse is a work of art. It is stunning. Did I say I love it. I love this purse.
It sure did make my heart feel so good knowing she took all the time to make me something this beautiful.
I know you can hardly wait to see it yourself..

Baseball Lounge Pants

I made the boys ( Dylan and Harley) more lounge pants. They liked the star wars ones. Harley said he liked the warm and fuzzy fleece, so I picked this fabric at Joanns on sale.

Hope these fit better I used another pattern Simplicity 2826. This pattern is sized smaller.

Another Valentine Wreath

My youngest daughter claimed the valentine wreath I made before , now I had to make another. Lets hope no one claims this one. I was going to make one for each holiday but I am having second thoughts I have hot glued my fingers too many times. I my children call my glue gun the KILLER MONSTER. it is an old black and decker. This glue gun is about 25 years old... hahahahaha I have newer ones but I always go to this old one. It is so messy right now yuck

BOO BOO

Oh yea I got a boo boo. I cut my finger with the rotary cutting.. grrrrrrrrr I am always careful. I don't know what I was doing. Well I know what I was doing. lol I was cutting ribbon for another wreath but why was my finger in the way? This is the first time I have cut my finger with the rotary and it will be the last... Can you say OUCH !!!!!! I actually was home alone when it happened , got alittle weak in the knees. This is putting a damper on typing. I know my heart is ticking away my finger thumps.

At least I am left handed, and the cut is on the right hand. I probably should have gone for stitches but will see. Hopefully it will be ok.

Star Wars

I think they will like them they are Star Wars . I asked my daughter Timmi for their waist and inseam measurements. Dylan is 7 and Harley is 5

Nylon Scrubbies

2 of my 3 daughters mentioned that they needed more scrubbies... My sister Carole made all of us some a while back. We all loved them so much . I asked her for the crochet pattern and she emailed them to. They last a long time and they DON'T scratch. You can use them on teflon or your glass top stove. great little things. Carole made them in all colors now the girls want them to color match .. LOL this younger generation.. hahahahahaha
Both daughter wanted brown (broring) but brown it is. In the evenings I will be crocheting these.

Kitchen Table

Remember my pretty Valentine's Day Kitchen table? LOL Well Tim needed a place to work on his front fender for his motorcycle. How could I ever refuse him. With all the crafts I have had thru out the house all these years I could never say no to him.
Let me explain Tim has a 1956 Harley Davidson motorcycle. He had it before we were married. It is his pride and joy. He has worked on this bike many many time. Torn it down to the frame and rebuilt it again. When we brought it to Texas it was actually all apart and in boxes. Every so often he decides to do something different.
This time it was to put a new front end on it. new tires and new front wheel and fender. That means a lot more chrome; for anyone that doesn't know.

Fabric Fairy

I finally finished making this Fabric Fairy for Amy. I never made a doll before .. Whewwwww It may be awhile before I make another.. It was hard for me. I am not too good at tedious work... I even made her curly hair. I have to wrap the wool yard around dowel rods boil them for 10 minutes then place them in the oven til dry.

I am not sure if she should have more hair on the back of her head.. I guess I will have to research that.

The candle stick holder on the table is very old . It was my dad's from years ago. I remember him giving it to me when I first got married. He didn't want it any more. I really don't know if it is a good cyrstal candle holder( I don't think it is) or glass. Don't matter to me I cherish it; it is valuable to me.

Went over to Amy's yesterday. Came home and to organize these patterns. One box is clothes, one is aprons and pincushions, one is sewing room stuff and window treatments, another is dog and Christmas, Another is organization patterns the last one is all purses, bag and totes. I really like these boxes I probably need to get more They are from Nancy Zieman Sewing with Nancy, I don't even know if you can buy them any more Amy and I got these YEARS ago .

Ironing Board

When I was making the arm chair caddy I noticed just how back my ironing board covers were. I really didn't take notice before. I thought I should make some new ones. When sewing the arm chair caddy Liz had this ironing board caddy I thought how cool is that. I need to make one of those too. I have 2 ironing boards. A regular one and one that fits over the door. I really use the smaller one; the one over the door for touch ups and pressing seams and quilt squares. Here is the old cover stained up.When I am finished I just fold it up and it is out of the way.

She uses them as night lights she has them on timers.

Sewing Patterns

Yesterday Amy and I went to Hobby Lobby. They had McCalls sewing Patterns on sale for .99, limit 10.
Amy and I had fun just picking out different ones. I like to collect apron patterns and anything to do with organizing any crafts and etc. Every time they are on sale I go and buy some.These will be added to my collection. I already have 3 pattern boxes full. I really don't pick up clothing patterns. Hmmm maybe I need to look at those next time. Liz I promise when I get these in my boxes I will take a picture of all my patterns. Hahahaha To be honest I don't know how many I have. I heard Joanns is having Simplicity patterns on sale starting Monday.... Guess where Amy and I will be going.. :)

After Christmas sales are my favorite.. Altho I really don't need anything, I always look. This year I found these 2 Santa's for 90% off at Joanns; who can pass those up. Neither of them had list of children's names. I told Amy why can we make them with out own names. Amy has a better embroidery machine then I do so she made the list for me. .Personalized. How cool is that? Tim and I ( Pappy and Grandma) my 3 girls Tricia , Amy and Timmi) and my 3 grandsons Dylan, Harley and Jacob) names. Thanks Amy I think I will have to find a special place for them next year... I am very happy. Amy brought them over yesterday.

It is a little chilly here in Houston. Abby finally get to wear some of her sweaters and heavy dresses.

Yesterday I spent some time sewing up these little kitchen towels.The pattern is very easy.
I cut the towels in half ( notice one part is upside down. ) I try to have some decorative towels for different holidays since I really don't decorate for anything but Christmas. These also make nice gifts for family friends and neighbors.

this takes up a whole sheet of paper.

Abby also got groomed. I just love it when Paige (her groomer) comes to the house and makes her beautiful.

Arm Chair Caddy

I finished my Arm Chair Caddy. Yeaaaaa I joined up with Liz at http://liz-moments.blogspot.com/ and her Sew Along. Each month will be a item you would use for sewing or in your sewing room. The first item for the year was a sewing caddy you would take into the living room to do handsewing.
I usually just stick the pins in the arm of the sofa and Tim always gives me that look . ( He says you know you are going to miss one and he will be the one that fines it in not a good way either) Now I have a caddy I can stick my pins in. I made the pincushion larger because I do use ALOT of pins when I sew. Maybe its because I am left handed I am not sure but I do use alot. I used this pattern called Hugs and Kisses. knowing me I had to add alittle bit of crocheting so I made this lil daisy to match the fabric..

Amy my middle daughter joined up too and yesterday she finished her project. I am so proud of her . She quilts but says she can't sew, follow sewing directions . Well she proved herself wrong look at her caddy.

Christmas is finally all finished. Furniture back the way it was. YEAAAAA !!!!! You have no idea how happy I am. That is one chore I really don't like doing. I love putting it all out but putting it away is another story.
Now I can get into my sewing room and relax and have fun for the rest of the year. I really don't decorate for any other holiday except Christmas. That is why I go all out. it is getting harder for Tim and I to decorate each year as we get older. I said this was the last year for 8 trees but we will see. I may not do the guest bedroom and sewing room next year .. that would take 2 trees away. But then they are only smaller trees only 4.5 ft trees. Well I will think about that in November. I have a few errands I will run today and then I can really relax.

January 8th, Mother's Birthday

Making progress on all my Christmas Un Decorating. packing everything away
Finally got all the trees un decorated.. This weekend we will work on the outside then done for another year.. Well really 11 month well 10.5 months oh geeezsss got to do this all over again...hahahahahahaha.

Yesterday was my Birthday and Amy( middle daughter) came over with Jacob. I didn't want a cake since I still have ALL kinds of goodies from Christmas and New Years. She bought over this big bowl of fruit.. I love it .
She also bought me the game Quiltopoly and a mess of quilting /sewing tools..

BIRTHDAY

Today is my Birthday. Born in 1949 I am 63 I don't think I will be doing much Un Decorating today.

But yesterday I got alot done. 2 trees in my bedroom well actually 3 But 1 was Abby's it was tiny.

I still have my upside tree in my sewing room to do.Then I have to clean the house. You know taking down decorations leaves a mess on the floor. This weekend we will be taking down the outside decorations. then I will be DONE !!!!!!!!

I love putting all this up but I don't like taking it down. I told my family this may be the last year for all the trees I was going to cut back. The problem is I like the trees my husband likes all the villages that light up. We will see how I feel in November. lol

Tomorrow is another day but for today I think I am going to go to Joanns fabrics.

Happy New Year!!!! Another year has come and gone. It seems the older I get the faster the years fly by..
I do hope and pray this year 2012 is a great year for all. I wish everyone health, wealth and love.

It has been a busy week with Christmas : family and friends visiting.

Our little elf arrived today. His name is Winston. He is sitting in our living room tree, the one that rotates. Every time he comes around we call out his name and wave. At night he flies back to Santa to let him know if we have been naughty or nice.

When he comes back in the middle of the night he finds a new place to rest. Each morning we have to find him.

Why is it you put up a tree and some of the lights just won't work. That is Tim's job, checking the lights. Usually he is in a good mood, but if he can't get the lights working after 30 minutes or so the "Grinch" appears. LOL. Thank goodness he never stays around too long. Finally get all the lights working and fluff the tree. These are our 2 living room trees. Ready to decorate.

But then it is from Dept. 56 too.
I rearranged the village to fit his pieces in.

Yes, it's that time again. I started my decorations. Tim brought down a few containers from the attic. I keep saying this is my last year to go all out.. i am going to start sizing down next year. It just takes so long to decorate any more. I have my Harley Davidson village up.

I just found out there is a new Harley Davidson building this year.. .Yes, I had to order it... We have them all. Tim likes the village too. Of course he does.

While putting in the new heating and A C units they broke a pipe in the attic. Water damage carpet and pad, water damage bathroom ceiling, and the insulation in the attic. Some got wet that needs to be replaced

The damage is in my guest bedroom and bath... And guess what, I am having company next week .. What are the chances of that.. hahahahahahah. This is the second time this has happened. And I think it was the same company that is coming again. Really what are the chances of this?

I have heard about the quilt fairy for about 5 or 6 years but never really believed.. Now I believe..

Her name is Faith. I had faith the quilt would be done. :)

This past week I have been working on a quilt. I had all the blocks done but need to finish sewing them together. The backing was already too. The other morning the finished top was laying on the floor to my surprise. All done!!!!

Now I was able to layer it and quilt it.. I just finished quilting Thank you Quilt Fairy.. I Believe!!!!
